The Emerald City
also City of Emeralds · Em'rald City · Emerald City of Oz
The green city at the centre of Oz, where the road of yellow brick ends and the Wizard is asked for favours.
First named in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, ch. 2
It is exactly in the center of the country, and is ruled by Oz, the Great Wizard I told you of.
As the books describe it
graceful and handsome buildings were covered with plates of gold and set with emeralds so splendid and valuable that in any other part of the world any one of them would have been worth a fortune The Road to Oz, ch. 18
The Emerald City is built all of beautiful marbles in which are set a profusion of emeralds, every one exquisitely cut and of very great size. The Emerald City of Oz, ch. 3
it certainly is a beautiful place, abounding in jewels and precious metals, and every good thing that is needed to make one happy. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, ch. 15
All they could see was a mass of towers and steeples behind the green walls, and high up above everything the spires and dome of the Palace of Oz. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, ch. 19
Sparkling green gems ornamented the fronts of the beautiful houses and the towers and turrets were all faced with emeralds. Even the green marble pavement glittered with precious stones, and it was indeed a grand and marvelous sight to one who beheld it for the first time. The Marvelous Land of Oz, ch. 6
The Emerald City lies directly in the center of these four important countries of Oz. The gates had bars of pure gold, and on either side of each gateway were built high towers, from which floated gay banners. The Patchwork Girl of Oz, ch. 14

Dorothy reaches the city in chapter 11 of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which calls it only "the wonderful City" — that chapter is held back for the review pass because it cannot be confirmed by name alone. Note also that the book's contents page titles that chapter "The Emerald City of Oz" while the chapter itself is headed "The Wonderful City of Oz".
